National Ocean Service Outstanding Team Member of the Year 2017
NOAA recognized Michelle as a Team Member of the Year for the National Ocean Service, which employs more than 4,000 federal employees and contractors. Michelle was one of only two people recognized from the National Marine Sanctuary System that year.

After two and a half years of Michelle relentlessly pursuing Tom Hanks as an ambassador of the Freeplay Foundation, he agreed. The Freeplay Foundation is now named the Lifeline Energy Foundation.
Michelle successfully engaged two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as Lifeline Energy’s American Ambassador. His support has helped tens of thousands of the critically poor in Africa.
Sea 2 Sea award
Sea to Shining Sea Award  
NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries awarded Michelle the Sea to Shining Sea Award for Excellence, for her achievement in advancing ocean and climate literacy and enhancing public understanding of the National Marine Sanctuary System. More than 47,000 people watched a livestream of  "GPB's Live Exploration of Gray’s Reef," an event Michelle created with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
